Jelani Dotson is a Brookwood project manager, financial analyst and shareholder. His real estate skill set draws on fifteen years of professional design and development experience both as owner/agent and design and development consultant. In addition to managing development projects, he brings strong financial skills to provide thorough valuation analysis at the property and capital structure level. Jelani currently focuses on multi-family and mixed-use urban infill projects in Northern California.
Prior to joining Brookwood in 2009, Jelani earned a Master of Business Administration (Finance) from the Yale School of Management.
From 2001 to 2006, he served as Founder and President of a Berkeley based design and real estate development company, Dotson Design and Development, Inc., where he sourced and participated in all phases of residential, commercial, and mixed-use design and real estate projects with a total value of more than $20 million. During this venture, he designed and developed his own projects, and provided design and development management services for individual and corporate real estate clients.
From 2000 to 2002, Jelani was a designer at Powell & Partners Architects where he focused on schematic design, design development, and construction documents for projects including the Oakland Airport Terminal Expansion and several Wells Fargo Bank tenant improvement projects.
From 1996 to 1998, Jelani was a junior architect / structural engineer at Interactive Resources. While with Interactive, Jelani produced construction documents for educational, governmental and commercial projects.
In addition to an MBA from Yale, Jelani holds Bachelor of Arts in Architecture (with Structural Engineering Minor) and Master of Architecture degrees from the College of Environmental Design at the University of California, Berkeley.
